Purpose
Occasionally Twiddles members create small websites that for one reason or another do not fit into any existing Twiddles websites and are not substantial enough to be hosted as fully-fledged websites with their own domains. Sometimes they are experimental pages, sometimes they are index pages to downloadable files (such as artwork) and sometimes they are just a bit of fun. Rather than not host these little sites at all we have created ETC to give them a home so that you may enjoy them. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and check out the ETC mini-sites!
Why “Event-horizon”?
This website's name, “Event-horizon.Twiddles.Com”, is taken from the name of the server that hosts this website. ”Event-Horizon“ is James Nash's personal webserver and currently also hosts several other websites. To find out more about the machine and its name please visit James's Event-Horizon website.
History
The ETC website wasn't always used to store miscellaneous mini-sites. Twiddles was originally intended to become a web-design agency and ETC was set up as a place to store unfinished client websites for testing a reviewing. Twiddles' web-design ambitions have been put on ice for now though, so there is no work for clients to be hosted here anymore. However, over the years a few side projects found their way onto ETC because no suitable home could be found for them elsewhere. Therefore the decision was made in 2005 to devote ETC entirely to such mini-sites and so it became the site you see before you now.
